Romancing Marriage

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Angie Lewis Sensuality and passion between couples becomes heightened when they share in fun and enjoyable things together. Were always learning, growing and noticing new things about the person we married. They change and they grow and as we share stimulating and interesting times with our spouse so does our perception of them change in a way we didnt think possible. And this is why we shouldnt let our marriage become dreary and mundane but always seek out fun and challenging things to share together. 1. Try to remember what you liked about your spouse from when you were first married. What did you do to woo your husband/wife? Do it again! Sometimes, especially if we have been married for a while we tend to take each other for granted and forget about how much we love the person we married. Its true, we do change as we experience life and as we get older but were not different people. Hopefully we are smarter, more experienced, happier, and more fun loving as we age. Did you know that couples who grow spiritually and mentally together instead of apart have better marriages? Its true! 2. Don’t feel intimidated to try something different from your usual routine. Couples can literally get so caught up in their daily routines that they miss out on the special opportunities to add a little pack of spunk into their marriage. This is also true in the lovemaking department. Try different techniques and different positions. There is no need to be shy with your spouse, more than likely, they too would like to try something different out of the ordinary. Try your expertise at bowling, roller-skating, or ice-skating, see a movie, or walk in the mall. Anything! Sharing time together doing things you normally wouldnt do brings excitement and fun back into a mundane relationship while bringing you closer together. If you like a challenge, or youre a thrill seeker, try skydiving, bungie jumping or for the more conscience at heart and a bit safer, how about a roller coaster ride. But by all means do these thrilling things together. 3. Take the weekend off and go somewhere romantic. Snow anyone? You don’t necessarily need to know how to ski to enjoy the amenities and beauty of a ski lodge. Lounge in the Jacuzzi, go sledding, take long walks outdoors, or sit by the fire talking about anything and everything. But leave work and home life out of the conversation. Take a trip to a lake in your area and stay overnight in a cabin. Go fishing, swimming, hiking, backpacking with your husband and eat by the campfire. Sleep in a tent and roast marshmallows. 4. Take a three-day spiritual/meditation retreat together. This will do wonders for the body, mind and soul. It will give you the relaxation you need to refresh your whole outlook on life and rejuvenate your marriage too. 5. Write down all the things you love about your husband/wife and share your thoughts with each other. Sometimes we forget to tell our spouse how much we love them or why we love them, but we all need to hear those words once in awhile. Its that bit of reassurance that brings music to our ears as it reminds us how blessed we really are to have married the person we did. Lets not forget about all those little things we love about our husband/wife. Lets tell them today! 6. Make up your own coupon booklet on the computer and give it to your husband/wife. In the coupon booklet for an example a coupon might read, “This coupon good for a 1/2 hour back rub.” The next coupon might read, “Coupon good for 20 minute foot massage.” The next coupon might say, Good for one night out at your favorite restaurant”. Coupon booklets are great because we can customize them to our needs and wants too. Happy Romancing! Angie Lewis has written another valuable and informative book geared to married women and women who are thinking of getting married. In her book Angie shares her inspired divine wisdom that took her years to figure out and apply into her own marriage of 22 years. How to be Your Pool Company’s Favorite Customer

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By Michael Dinger By taking advantage of a few easy swimming pool maintenance tips, you can easily make yourself the most profitable customer your local pool business has ever seen. 1. Don’t clean your pool! A dirty pool is an expensive pool (expensive for you, profitable for your local pool business). The more you let your pool go, the more it will cost to get things back together again. Do you see leaves in there? By all means, let them sit. Are random foreign objects floating around in your pool? Sure, let them stay. Anything that doesn’t belong in the pool, it shouldn’t cause any problems, right? Likewise, it’s a waste of time to be brushing your pool especially the dead spots where algae is likely to grow. Your pool company will love you, knowing that you’ll need to be buying algaecide, shock, and possibly other products to clean up a mess. Your pool business would love for you to let your pool go. 2. Never empty your skimmer or pump baskets. Those baskets are meant to permanently store all the debris that they catch. That’s what baskets are for, right? Storage! It would be a far greater hassle to empty that skimmer basket every few days, as opposed to letting it break and having to buy a new one (at $15 a pop) with great regularity. Not only that, but it’s good for your pool to be choking on the water circulation. Forcing your pump to work harder only makes it stronger, right? No pain, no gain. When your skimmer basket breaks, letting debris get through, let that same junk sit in your pump basket for a while. You can break two baskets with only one load of debris! After your pump basket breaks, that’s when the real excitement begins. You’ll have all sorts of chunks flying through the rest of the pump, and being forced into the filter. Hoorah! All the equipment is getting some exercise now! Hopefully something will break, which will further ingratiate you with your favorite pool place. After all, cleaning out those baskets is far more trouble than it’s worth, right? 3. If you see algae, brush it and hope it goes away. It’s a well-known fact that scrubbing algae kills it, as opposed to the nonsense of using concentrated chlorine on it. After all, even though algae was actually growing in the pool, there still should be enough chlorine in the pool to kill that stuff. The idea of actually shocking the pool wouldn’t make any sense then, would it? By all means, wipe away the algae and then continue on your merry way. It’s not like it will come back, right? Your pool company would much rather you waited until your algae becomes a significant problem, and growing everywhere before you take an interest in treating it. So do your pool business a favor and wait until there’s algae everywhere before you decide to do anything about it. 4. Buy all your chemicals in as small amount as humanly possible. If you need some shock or chlorine sticks, make sure you get them in the smallest container available. You want to avoid those larger containers like the plague. Not only are those larger containers of the dreaded economical type, and not only do they cost you less per pound, but they will keep you from being required to regularly visit your favorite pool business. Keep in mind, these tips are only useful if you want to be as financially supportive as possible to your local pool company. If you’d rather save money, or spend it on something other than your pool, you would do best to ignore all this advice, or even do the opposite. Michael Dinger has worked in a pool supply business and can easily recall the silliness actual pool owners have done. How A Man Knows He Loves A Woman

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

By Glenn Cohen As men, we have been conditioned: to be the alpha male, to know what we want, to be the hunter and provider, to have the answers, to be strong, tough, and steady. Unfortunately, this kind of attitude does not leave much room for tenderness and vulnerability. Its no wonder we have so much trouble in our relationships. It is ironic that being such a strong and decisive species, we can be very weak and indecisive when it comes to the woman we love. Men as well as women have three powerful, dynamic forces at work inside themselves: the mind, the heart, and the soul. Figuring out whether we are truly in love with the woman we are with is difficult — we cannot always differentiate between or understand the energy from these forces. The MindThis computer commonly referred to as our brain is the driving force behind our behaviors. It is also the source of the voice called the Chatterbox. Depending on how we program the mind, the Chatterbox will influence perceptions, beliefs, rationalization, judgment, actions, and desires. It can be loud at times, consuming our attention and creating mental conflict and confusion. When involved in a relationship, the Chatterbox may create three mind viruses: fears, distorted perspectives, and unrealistic expectations. The negative energy generated by these viruses causes relationship problems. It creates conditions in which we will not think clearly, trust ourselves, or distinguish between love, addiction, and infatuation. The Heart The heart is soft tissue that tears easily, yet is the strongest muscle in the body. It is also the second force behind many of the problems we have in relationships. When the soft tissue is dominant, we show romance, tenderness, and understanding. When the muscle is strong, we behave like body armored soldiers standing guard to protect ourselves. No wonder women find us so confusing. We have been conditioned to focus on the strong side of the heart, denying that we want to be soft, tender, and loving. When we become involved in a relationship with a woman letting that soft side dominate — and she hurts or disappoints us, we become reactive warriors, toughening the muscle and standing guard. After a few such instances, the denial grows stronger and the soft side becomes more difficult to access. The SoulThe soul is the inner voice, the energy that resonates deep within ourselves and affects us in a profound way. We do not know how to listen to, or do not trust, this energy source. The soul is instinct, intuition, and subconscious. We cannot quite put a finger on it. If we allow ourselves, we can feel the vibrations of this energy. When we become conflicted in relationships, it is often because the mind says one thing and the heart says another. We try to find a solution with the mind or react with the heart. It is confusing and painful to find ourselves caught in the middle of these two dynamic forces that send out conflicting messages. The soul receives energy from both the mind and heart. If we can learn to listen to the inner voice, the soul can be the arbitrator between the two. We must learn to listen, hear, and trust that inner voice — it is never wrong. Imagine you have learned how to listen to your inner voice, and you hear it tell you that you are in love with a woman. However, your mind is still chattering loudly with fears and your heart remains on guard. Read the list below and consider which of the statements apply to you. If most of them resonate powerfully with you, try to quiet your mind, relax your heart, and listen to your inner voice. You are in love with the woman you are with when: You are inspired to make her smile every day You give her a gift and it fills you with happiness You look in her eyes and feel a jolt of positive energy You are inspired to make her feel safe and loved You desire and are filled with joy from her affection You do just about anything to take care of her You are inspired to be the best you can be You are dedicated to the success of the relationship You look at her and profoundly know that you are home You look at her and your soul is at peace Create relationship success at home, at work and within yourself learn about the I-TO-WE - Personal-Coaching - Couples-Coaching - Business-Coaching at our website - I-TO-WE Relationship Coaching Its Free - Become a member of the I-TO-WE Institute Share your biggest relationship question, challenge, or concern. How to Manage Your Graphic Designer to Get Great Design for Your Nonprofit

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

By Nancy E. Schwartz Nothing is as compelling as managing the design, of a printed piece or web look for your organization, service or campaign. It’s easy to get swept away envisioning the impact it will have on your target audiences. And the creative adventure of bringing that piece, or web design, to life, is usually a welcome change from strategic and administrative work. However, the excitement often fades when you dive into the process of finding, hiring, and managing a designer or design team. Let’s be honest. It’s challenging to manage a designer’s creativity into a design take that meets your organization’s needs can be challenging. You definitely want to give the designer the opportunity to channel her creative genius into something powerful. On the other hand, you want to ensure that she translates your marketing concept into something that speaks to your audiences and motivates advocacy, donations, registration, inquiries, or whatever call to action you need. I’ve run up against this challenge time and again, first as an in-house marketing director in several publishing houses, and at the Foundation Center, and most recently as the marketing firm point person for nonprofit and foundation clients. Over the years, I’ve devised a few strategies that ensure that the design process goes smoothly. And they really work. I advise you to take these five steps. When you do, you’ll generate the design results that make the greatest impact for your organization: Step One: Take your time to find the RIGHT designer. NOTE: Take this step immediately, not when you’re in desperate need of a designer. I have, over the years, developed a stable of about seven good designers. They are all the RIGHT designer, but not one of them is the right designer for every single design project. The question is how do you find your stable of RIGHT designers? You’re likely to need relationships with three or four designers. The number depends on the volume of design work, the range of looks you’re trying to achieve, and the diversity of materials and online projects to be designed. My situation is unique. Because I work with many clients with diverse needs, I require more of a range of design skills and price points than would any single nonprofit or foundation. Here’s how to find your designers: Step Two: Gather favorite design samples Keep a folder of favorites, printed materials you identify as good design in the same range as your organization’s image or the image you want to establish. Bookmark website designs in the same way. Make sure that some of your picks are produced by nonprofits and foundations. Step Three: Compile your list of prospective designers Contact communications colleagues (make sure you like their design sensibility first, judging by their products) and ask for designer recommendations. Get basic information on pricing, work style, and client base. Contact the communications director at those organizations who produced the print materials or websites you’ve tagged. Start by contacting the folks at organizations closest to yours in focus and/or budget. It’s most likely, but not a definite, that their designers are the best fit. Step Four: Hone your list to the top three or four by interviewing ten to twelve designers Contact the top ten to twelve before you have a design project ready to go. At that point, you won’t want to waste a minute in getting design estimates in. Here are some of the questions I ask prospective designers: How long have you been designing? With this firm/working freelance? Have you worked with nonprofit organizations? If so, who are some of your clients? How did you get into design work for nonprofits? Do you design for print and online media? Could you show me a few samples of what you consider to be your strongest design projects? What is the average size (dollar-wise) of your design projects? Take me through the design process for a brochure? How about an annual report? Do you have references I can call? Will you personally be designing our work, and be my point person? (for non-solo designers) These are the quirks you’ll face in designing for our nonprofit (explain any, from the Executive Director thinking she’s a designer–and putting her stamp on every piece–to a boss who always changes his mind completely on what a piece should feature when he sees a design concept)While reviewing past work is a very important consideration, be sure you also spend some time talking to their clients to find out more about their design process, working styles, and the results of the project. Step Five: Write a creative brief the moment you get a whiff of a pending design job A creative brief is the most effective way to get everyone (your colleagues and the design team) started with a common understanding of what needs to be accomplished. An effective creative brief gives the designer direction and provides your team with benchmarks against which to evaluate design concepts. Spending the time to complete a thorough creative brief will save you a lot of time up front, and ensure that you get the design product you envisioned. In two pages at most, your brief should: Define the project and its objectives List, characterize and prioritize audiences Present Unique Selling Proposition(USP), one sentence about what makes the organization, program or service unique List top features and/or facts about the program, service or organization, and its value to audiences Detail tone or image Specify budget and time frame Outline internal review and approval process These five steps will lead you to strong relationships with the right designers. As a result, I guarantee that your print and online design work will be more effective than ever in engaging and spurring recognition from your target audiences. Start right now by diving into the stacks in your office. It’s likely that, when you do, you’ll find some great design samples that will lead you to more effective (and maybe even less expensive) graphic design for your organization. Nancy E.
